Write for us
Modern Food Journal welcomes considered contributions that help readers understand ingredients, cooking, meals, food history or kitchen rituals. We are interested in a clear point of view, careful language and subjects that reward a reader's attention without demanding professional expertise.
What makes a good pitch
Send a concise proposal with a working title, the central question, the angle you would take and why it suits Modern Food Journal. Name the reader the piece is for and the useful distinction or idea they will leave with. A focused subject is stronger than a broad promise to cover everything about a cuisine, ingredient or cooking method.
The kind of work we welcome
We welcome accessible explainers, thoughtful comparisons, food-history features and practical pieces about ordinary cooking and shared meals. Strong proposals make room for context, avoid unsupported health claims and do not present personal preference as a rule for everyone. Please tell us if a proposal has been published elsewhere or has a commercial connection.
Sending a proposal
Use the Contact page to send your pitch, choosing the editorial question option and including your proposed title and outline in the message. Please do not send a complete article unless we have asked for one. A proposal is not a guarantee of publication, and we will consider it on its merits.
A meal is more than what is on the plate.
The way food is chosen, prepared and shared gives it meaning. We make space for those details without turning every meal into a project.
